Utah M2 releases 2025-2026 season schedule

Utah Hockey July 30, 2025
July 30, 2025 Salt Lake City, Utah The University of Utah Men’s Division 2 (M2) hockey program has released its 2025-2026 regular season schedule. The Skatin’ Utes will enter their fifth season (2021-2025) at the Division 2 level of the American Collegiate Hockey Association. The Utes are coming off a fantastic season with their 2025 Mountain West Collegiate Championship and their first trip to Nationals since the previous team moved to Division 1 back in 2016. The team actually has two back to back conference championships after winning their third PAC-8 Conference Championship in February of 2024. Utah secured a 25-8-3 record last season and will be looking to repeat at the MWCHL championships and punch their ticket to Nationals. Head Coach Nick Fornelius has been busy recruiting after a large graduating class last spring. With 11 freshman coming in, it looks to reload and improve on a fantastic season. Fornelius also won the 2025 ACHA Western Region Coach of the Year award, plus the 2025 ACHA Division 2 National Coach of the Year Award this last spring. “We’re looking forward to competing with so many great teams this season. We have some great rivalries on the schedule and some new opponents as well that will be a great test for our group. We’re excited to get back to work and looking forward to the start of the new season, said Fornelius. Utah’s kicks off the season with a two game road weekend against in-state rivals Weber State and Utah Valley University on September 18th and 19th, 2025. Following the in-state road games, the Utes will celebrate their home opener the following weekend against Weber State and Utah State University on September 26th and 27th. The Skatin’ Utes will then hit the road North to face off against the Western Region powerhouse Montana State University, University of Montana, and University of Providence on October 2-4, 2025. Upon returning from Big Sky Country, the Utes will prepare for their first trip to Florida Gulf Coast University in team history on October 10th and 11th in Estero, Florida. The last time these two teams met on the ice was the 2015 Men’s Division 2 Championship hosted by Utah Hockey and the University of Utah. Of note, Utah’s M2 Head Coach Nick Fornelius and the FGCU Head Coach Eric Mabie both played in this infamous game shown below.

Utah M2’s October will continue at home with a three game home stand versus Metro State University, University of Colorado, and the University of Wyoming Cowboys from October 16-18th. Utah will then have a bye the following weekend on October 24th and 25th. After the bye, Utah will host all MWCHL rivals University of Montana, University of Providence, and Montana State University. Of note, the Saturday game versus Montana State will occur at the Park City Ice Arena. Next up will be another in-state rival series against Utah Valley and Utah State on November 6th and 8th before hosting Utah Valley and Weber State at home on November 14th and 15th. These in-state rivalries always prove to hard fought games. The Annual Beehive Showcase returns to Salt Lake City from November 20-23rd, with Utah M2 hosting Arizona State, California, Colorado State, and Loyola Marymount. With 16 total teams visiting the State of Sport this week, this tournament will have huge ACHA ranking implications before the Thanksgiving Break. When the team returns from the Thanksgiving break they have two remaining games before the semester break. The home and home series against Utah State will occur on December 5th and 6th, with the Utes playing at home on December 6th, 2025. After the holidays, Utah m2 will have one in-state road games against Weber State on January 10th before traveling to Denver, Colorado for their first appearance in the Big Mountain Showcase. Opponents and schedule for this tournament have yet to be released. The Utes will have just one regular season game remaining on January 22, 2026 against Utah Valley, before tournament season will begin. The following weekend, the Utes will compete in the Annual Wasatch Cup tournament, where the best college team in Utah will be crowned. Utah has won the Wasatch Cup four times since its began in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2020. The tournament will be in Provo, Utah this year. Utah will compete in the 2026 Mountain West Collegiate Hockey League Championship the following weekend from February 5-7, 2026. Tournament location has yet to be announced.
