The University of Utah Women’s Division 1 (W1) hockey program has announced its 2023-2024 regular season schedule. The Skatin’ Utes will enter their fourth season playing at the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) W1 level. Additionally, the Utes will continue to play in the Women’s Western Collegiate Hockey League (WWCHL).
After a 17-9 season last year, the Skatin’ Utes will open their season on the road in Bozeman, Montana, facing off against Montana State University on September 29 and 30.
Following a bye weekend, Utah returns to the road to battle WWCHL rival Arizona State. These games will be played in Tempe on October 13 and 14. Utah is looking to avenge their three losses against the Sun Devils from last season.
Utah will return to Salt Lake City for their home opener on Friday, October 20, 2023. They will face off against Colorado State University for their second conference series of the season. The second game in the series will be played on Saturday, October 21. Utah beat the Rams in both regular season meetings last year but fell to the CSU in the 2023 WWCHL Tournament.
Continuing in WWCHL conference play, the Utes head to the desert to match up against Grand Canyon University. Utah will be in Phoenix on October 27 and 28 taking on the Antelopes. Last season Utah split a home series against GCU on home ice.
After Utah’s second bye weekend, they will head to New England to take on the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. The Utes will be playing in Boston on November 10 and 11. In one meeting last season, Utah fell to the Minutewomen. The Skatin’ Utes seek revenge after the injury bug struck just before last season’s meeting.
The Annual Beehive Showcase will take place November 16 through 18. These will be Utah’s final games before the holiday break.
The Skatin’ Utes will begin a 3-weekend home stand on January 19 and 20. Montana State comes to town as Utah looks to their unbeaten record at home against the Bobcats.
In what will be the most anticipated home series of the season, Utah hosts Arizona State on January 26 and 27. The last time Utah hosted the Sun Devils they claimed a win and an overtime loss against the eventual WWCHL champions (2021-2022 season).
To close out the home stand, the Utes host the University of Colorado on February 2 and 3. Utah went 3-1 against the Buffaloes last season. Senior night will be celebrated on Saturday, February 3 at 7:30 pm MDT.
On February 9 and 10, Utah travels to the Mile High City to face the University of Denver. The Utes look to continue their unbeaten streak against the Pioneers.
Closing out the regular season, Utah heads to Nebraska to play perennial ACHA W1 powerhouse Midland University. This will be the first time these two teams meet. Midland ended their season in the ACHA National Tournament semifinals against Minot State.
The WWCHL Championships return to Salt Lake City spanning from February 23-25. Utah hosted this tournament at the end of their inaugural season in 2020. The Utes are seeking their first-ever WWCHL Championship along with the auto bid to the ACHA National Tournament.
