University of Utah Hockey announces that Pete Gibb has been named assistant coach of the Skatin’ Utes for the 2019-20 season. Gibb is from Troy, Michigan and grew up playing for the famed Honeybaked and Little Caesars hockey programs.
“I’m honored to re-join the program that gave me so much as a player, and assist in not only the development of the goaltenders, but hopefully contribute to the incredible trajectory of the program overall,” said Gibb.
As a goaltender, he spent 4 seasons with the University of Utah hockey team, appearing in 77 games, including 46 wins, 6 shutouts, and a career .912 Save Percentage. Gibb also co-holds the Utah record for best save percentage in a season (.930 – 2012), and most points in a season (4) and career (7) as a goaltender. He also appeared briefly with the Bakersfield Condors (ECHL), before retiring.
Gibb then spent 4 seasons (2015-2018) with Oakland University (M3). There, he helped guide the Golden Grizzlies to 4 straight National Tournament appearances, winning the National Championship in 2016 as an assistant, and was the National Runner-up in 2018 as a head coach.
Pete also has 15 years of goalie coaching experience, working with some of the country’s top-tier coaching outfits – Elite Goaltending Development out of Michigan, and Stop-It Goaltending out of Boston. On the player development side, Pete also holds a Level 5 USA Hockey Coaching Certification.
Utah GM AJ Boldan said, “It’s great to have Pete back in Salt Lake and we are lucky to have him. He will be adding tremendous depth and experience to the coaching staff. Our goaltending corp will benefit as well.”
