Wasatch Cup Tournament returns to Salt Lake

January 27, 2020 Salt Lake City, Utah Utah Hockey is proud to announce the University of Utah will be the host of the 2020 Wasatch Cup Tournament from January 31st through February 1st, 2020. The annual tournament, now entering its 6th season, brings all ACHA hockey teams in the Great State of Utah into one tournament. This includes Brigham Young University, University of Utah, Utah State University, Utah Valley University, and Weber State University against each other to decide which college will reign supreme in the Beehive State. This year’s tournament will occur January 30-February 1, 2020 with one play-in game played in Provo, Utah on January 30th. The remaining four games will occur at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex in Salt Lake City, UT on January 31st and February 1st. The tournament is set up similar to the famed the Beanpot Tournament in Boston, MA where the local colleges play for the tournament title. There will be two semifinal games on January 31st. The highest ranked team will play the lowest ranked team in one semifinal and the second highest ranked team will play the third highest ranked team in the other semifinal. The two losing schools will play in a consolation game on February 1st, followed by the two winning schools playing in the championship game to decide the Wasatch Cup. With each team always playing a different amount of games against each other throughout the season, this three-day tournament is aimed to not only showcase college hockey in Utah, but finally put an end to the annual debate over which team is the best in the state. “We are excited to host the 6th Annual Wasatch Cup in Salt Lake!
