PREVIEW: Utah takes on Wyoming, Weber State

Matt Komma October 9, 2015
October 9, 2015. Salt Lake City, Utah It’s been so far so good for the University of Utah Skatin’ Utes, as the team has posted a 4-0-1 record to start the season and will look for two more wins this weekend. On Friday, the Utes welcome the Wyoming Cowboys to the Utah Ice Sheet for the first ever meeting between the two teams. Wyoming is a new ACHA Division II program this year, making the jump from Division III over the off-season. The first D2 campaign has been a slow start for the Cowboys, posting a 1-3 record to start the season. The lone win is against Air Force’s Division III team at home last weekend, where the Cowboys won 1-0. Tyler Johnson leads the team in points so far this season with three points in four games early this season. In between the pipes, the Cowboys have seen three different goaltenders take the ice already this season with Sloan Locker picking up Wyoming’s lone win this season with a 32-save shutout. On Saturday the Utes hit the road for just the second time this season, as they wrap up their season series with the Weber State Wildcats in Ogden. The Utes held on for a 3-2 victory at home last weekend against the Wildcats after leading 3-0 in the third period. The Wildcats are 1-5 so far this season and will be looking for revenge at home after their comeback attempt fell short last weekend. As for Utah, Chase McDonald, Kurtis Kunz, and Michael Ahern all lead the team in points with seven each. In goal, both Devan Betts and Chris Komma have two wins each so far this season. Friday night’s game at the Utah Ice Sheet against Wyoming is at 9:30pm and Saturday’s game in Ogden will be at 7:30pm at the Ogden Ice Sheet. Both games will be broadcasted in HD on Utah Game Day Live.
