The University of Utah Hockey has received a commitment from Forward Luke Houk for the upcoming 2023-24 season. Luke was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. He played youth hockey all across the state until he was 15 years old and then committed to play in the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) for the North Carolina Eagles. He went on to play for the Philadelphia Revolution in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and then back to the UPSHL to play for the Richmond Generals. In 2021, Houk committed to the University of Delaware and began his Division 1 collegiate hockey career in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). After two seasons with the Blue Hens, he decided to transfer to the University of Utah to be closer to family and play hockey with his brother. Houk and his brother, Shaun have been playing hockey since they were old enough to put skates on. There’s rarely been a time that he was on the ice without his brother, which had created an inseparable bond between us. “I’m blessed to have the opportunity to play for Utah Hockey, and am excited to bring my experience, leadership, and gritty, fast game to the ice,” said Houk. Being able to play with his brother on the team is just icing on the cake for this brother duo.
When he is not playing hockey or focusing on his classes, he is usually fishing, hiking, golfing, shooting, or working on his software agency. In addition, he is a Level 1 official for USA Hockey and referees at levels ranging from youth to the men’s league.
“We’re excited to bring Luke onto the team for the upcoming season. His experience at the college and junior levels and his scoring touch will be a big boost for our team. We’re looking forward to him stepping in and being a contributor right away,” said Men’s Division 2 Head Coach Nick Fornelius.
Houk plans to study Business Administration at the U.
